Oversize Banners - Check Your Compliance!

Flexible and portable, vinyl Oversize Banners are one of our most popular products. They are easy to use and fasten, with the option of ropes or eyelets. 

Just like our aluminium or galvanised backed oversize signs, the face of oversize banners must have a yellow surface complying with Class 1 or 2 reflective material, and must be affixed to the vehicle at around eye level for other motorists. They must not be obstructed in any way. 

Specific requirements of oversize banners are as follows - an Oversize sign may be made of flexible, weatherproof material if the sign is:

• Held taut
• Clearly visible, and
• Unlikely to become dislocated, furl or otherwise difficult to be read by other road users. 

So where possible, it is best to use a fixed, metal-backed sign or sticker to ensure all requirements are met, but it's good to have a vinyl banner as an alternative. 

As a reminder, below are the standard requirements for any Oversize sign:

• The overall dimensions of the sign must be 1200mm wide and 450mm high, but it can be split into 2 equal parts (e.g. 600mm wide and 450mm high)
• The sign must have a yellow surface complying with Class 1 or 2 of AS 1906 'Retro-reflective Materials and Devices for Road Traffic Control Purposes'
• The word OVERSIZE must be in black capital letters and in typeface Series C (N) complying with AS 1744 'Forms of Letters and Numerals for Road Signs'
• Sign letters must be at least 200mm high and at least 125mm from the top and bottom of the sign
• The sign must have a black border at least 20mm wide, with the outermost edge at least 10mm from the end of the sign
• The sign manufacturer's name or trademark, and the brand and class of material used for the sign must be marked in letters 3-10mm high on any visible part of the sign
• If the sign is split, 'OVER' must be on the left part, and 'SIZE' must be on the right part. There must be no border between the two parts, and both parts must be mounted at the same height
• The sign must be fitted horizontally, and the lower edge of the warning sign must be above the bottom bumper bar, or at least 500mm above ground level.
